Artist's Statement

No art is created in a void. Many things have influenced me, Life itself influences my work; whether ceramics, photography, or other media, my work is an amalgamation of my various experiences: Personal interactions, spiritual beliefs, and an abiding love of myth and the written word have all had an impact on me artistically.

Ceramics

I have worked with many media, from traditional darkroom photography to watercolors; but the moment my hands touched clay I never looked back. While I still take pleasure in taking up pen, brush, and camera; I strive to make an impact in the world of ceramics. I find the most pleasure in wresting beauty from what some would see as failure. A mistake in throwing or hand building is, to me, an invitation to play and create something unique when some would lose heart and scrap the work and begin anew. I find beauty in the flaws, and occasionally accent them with gold leaf to draw the eye to something that could be seen as a problem in more traditional work.

Other Media

I've never claimed to be talented with brush, pen, or camera, but I do strive to create beautiful images when the mood strikes me. My style with these types of media could be described as whimsical, and almost never as what some might call sophisticated. In any case, it is something I enjoy showcasing as it reflects on my thought processes in my chosen media of emphasis.
